I took my kids to the beach for the day. My daughter actually asked me if she could get her hair wet. I laughed cause thats something she got from daycare. On of her friend cryied when her hair got wet on a trip to the pool. I told her that fine just no sand please. Gotta love locks :)

Well now it's official. Two sister, 2 neices and my daughter. I have locked them all. The next time i post i will have pictures of my sisters but for now here is my 23 year old niece. One day i will have enough clients to put in for certification i have one even though i have done 5. 4 were family. I don't mind though. They make good walking/talking business cards.

I was tagged a while ago by MsJamison2U and Maryee I think. I have been tagged again by Docs Locks (AYO). I think i should finally post my 7 facts. Here are the rules:

1. I am married, have been for almost 14 years now and have 2 children..

2. Like MsJamison2U daughter i am a Air Force Vet of almost 17 Years. Becuase of this I have been lucky enough to have traveled to over 14 countries up until this point in my life. 3. I have been doing hair for about 10 years. Mostly my own but i also did braids for others. My favorite thing to do is microbraids and now Sisterlocks. I do more hair for my family then anything else. 2 sisters 2 nieces and my daughter. I have about 4 real clients.

4. I have poor retighting habits. This last time i went 4 months without retighting my hair.

5. I am an interverted extravert which means i am a really quite person how has flashy habits. I do like attention :)

6. I play pool. I have been playing for little over a year. I slowed down allot while my husband was deployed but i am picking it back up again.

7. In the Air Force i am a computer systems operator currently working on a helpdesk. I hate computers. When i retire in 3 years i donot plan to get a job having to do with computers. I will more than likely have one on my desk but thats as far as i plan to go. i will use my degree in management to do something else. No matter how much money EVERYONE keeps saying i can make in the computer field. I am not gonna do it.

Today is my niece's boyfriends senior prom and i thought i would share some pictures of her. Yes folks she died her braid locks that color. Anyway the dress was sewn by my sister Elle and my niece styled her hair herself and i did a little makeup. Not too much, it is her boyfriends prom not hers. You won't be seeing them on hot ghetto mess any time soon.

Two Year Anniversay

Well ladies it has been two years since i started my sisterlocks journey. I have been so busy that I haven't update my blog, and for that i appologize. I have been busy busy busy doing everyone's hair but my own. I have successfully completed 2 sisterlock intial installs. One on a client and one on my sister. My client took far to long to complete. She has 12-14 inchs of natural hair. In some spots it was full at the base but stringy in the middle to end. I am glad to say that her hair is finally complete. It's encouraging to know i can do it but it was a hard process. With her crazy schedule and mine i would only get one full day out of her to work on her hair. This caused concern since i have not bulit up any speed yet. We started the last week of march and finished last night. I few weekends we were unable to work due to confilcts but she was extremely patient. She is a long time client of sorts. I have be braiding her hair for her for over a year so i knew what i was getting into but i didn't think it would take me so long to finish.

I spoke to my client yesterday and she is thrilled with her hair. Not that i was worried but it's nice to hear.

My sister, Pat, is so excited about her locks she's ready to take the next class no matter where it's held. Her hair is thin and will present issues over the next few months but i think we are up for the task. Pat had traditional palm rolled lock of 10 years before she cut them off about 3 years ago and getting her to listen to me, the BABY sister, has been a task. I practically had to tie her down to make her watch the video's and do the consultation but she is so much better for it. It so pays to follow the process. Anyway enjoy this picture of my daughter in her graduation rode. She will be graduating from kindergarden in 2 weeks. Time is flying fast. Also she has hand and lockitist. She will go to school hair nice and neat and come home will at leat 5 locks pulled out in the front.

March Sisterlocks Training Class in Baltimore MD

Well folks as i stated before, i took the sisterlocks training class in Baltimore from the 3rd the to 6th of March and it was worth every penny. I have posted a collage of the few pictures i took on the last day of class. It was such a wonderful group I almost hated for the class to end. Thanks to Denise Dixon Roberts of Nubian Solutions Salon, and Laverne Davis-Gay of Philidelpha PA and Dana Hagan of Alexandria VA for imparting there wisdom and knowledge. Also thanks to or model Mr. Larry Hagan of Alexandria VA. He is also a Sisterlocks Consultant Trainee. We were also given a presentation by Farika Broadnax Certified Sisterlocks Consultant and Training about a apprenticship program available in the DC metro area.

An Apology

I must apologize for not updating my blog. I had all the intentions to but none of the follow through. I will, however, make sure i take pictures of my daughter's hair this weekend since it's her one year lociversary, i would never want to over look that.

Also i am going to become a Sisterlocks consultant. I am signing up for the class as we speak (type). I am so excited, it doesn't even seem real. I even have 2 head (full of long, long, and thick, thick hair) just waiting for me to complete training.

I would like to take a moment to share with you the beautiful women in my life. From left to right is myself, My oldest sister Trish, my mother, my next oldest sister Ellie, my sister in-law Tina and last but never least is my daughter Denea. We went out to dinner at Moe's seafood in Baltimore for my mother's 75th birthday. If you have never been to Moe's it's worth the trip. There was so much food that everyone had a doggie bag.

Drive By Advice

Ok my niece and i are at the Patapsco flee market and i am buying some tams and this woman just stops and offers my niece some unslicited advice. She told my niece that the best way to get lovely locks was to use Lemon juice (fresh squeezed) applied with a tooth brush and herbal hair grease (the kind that has bits and pieces of herbs in it) twist the locks and clip them down and that they would grow long. And that she used to have long locks but cut them off but it worked really well even though see has soft wavy hair.

I went on to tell her we don't use grease because it not good for your hair. She stated that the only thing bad about grease was it's made from petrolem. Like you can find grease that's not petroleum....... and that we don't twist that our locks are interlocked (didn't want to go there with sisterlocks i wanted her to move on) she was like oh well i was just trying to help (attitude). Anyway that was my first drive by advice and i thought i would share it with all of you.

Positive note i got 2 tams for $20 one is all brown and one is brown white and cream. All i need now is a black one and i should be good for the winter.

Hello everyone. I have been gone, hopefully not forgotton. I allot have been going on and i haven't made the time to blog. Today is the 18 month mark for my locks and i wanted to document it. I have been noticing that i have what seems to be hair around the base of my locks that broke off. I am not sure though. anyone else having this problem? Could it be new hair growing in and i am just worring for nothing. my locks don't seem any thiner. I was just wondering, i am overdue for retighting my hair at the moment, that could have something to do with it. Anyway later

Lost braids

Well as it happens with the best of locked heads, my daughter lost 2 may be 4 or her locks. As far as i can tell she had been playing with the locks on her edges and weakend them some how. i found one on the floor of the kitchen and one on the floor in her room. Wehat make me mad is i had 2-straid twisted her locks against her head and she pull them out of the twist in order to mess with them. Now she has thin edges on the left side of her head and it's obvious the the locks are missing, at least to me.

Anyway i did win another fight this week, i had been haveing problems with dirt getting trapped in her locks. what i did was wash her hair with regular shampoo in order to soften up the root so that they would release the dirt then i washed her hair with a lemon clarifing shampoo. I seemed to work all the dirt was gone, well gone at least till next sunday :)

Well folks let me be the first to wish me a happy birthday. I am turning 34 this year. I am going out to a club up in baltimore to hang out with my girl friends and check out some strippers. I will post some pictures from my special day later.

Ok so we went to Club Choice and it was a waste of gas. I have never seen so many bamma strippers in my life. First of all the strippers with bodies were frail and the rest should have kept their shirts on. One did.... Anyway be warned, if anyone invites you to b-more for the show don't go you will be better off seeing the dc bad boys at classics or the cfe. needless to say we didn't have a great time but we did laugh ALOT....

I did jump on board with the Softspikes but i did go out and get some Curoso Curlers. I say them demostrated during Farika's and Dana's hair styling class. Since i could actually see how well they worked i know that i wouldn't be disapointed. I am happy with the curls i got. I can see i will be using this often.

I would like to intruduce you to Corbin. He is the newest member of our family. He is a mute form the county pound. He is a Beagle/Pitt mix. He is a sweetie pie but doesn't seeem to want to get house trained. Any suggestions would help. The first two weeks he was home he had Kennel cough, and last week he got fixed so he's not too happy but he up to his old tricks already. He's even figured out how to jump the fence in the yard so now i can't let him out without put a leash on him..... oh well..... Say him Corbin....Woof Woof Woof :}

Beads

Well the one deal breaker for my daughter and her braidlocks was "would she still be able to wear beads" well folks of course you can. I twisted her braids together in groups of 10 (390+) and put her beads on. I could have put smaller beads on the individual braids but i couldn't see my self letting her walk around with almost 400 beads in her hair. That just wouldn't be being a good mom. :)

My Neice

This is my neice. She has always had short hair. Well she deceided that she wanted locks so i said I will do it for you. She has really bad exezima(SP) so braid locks were her best bet so that she could wash her hair often. She didn't have alot of new growth but she did have just enough to hold the braid. Wish her luck and any advice would be helpful.

Retighting - Another Mildstone

I can retighten my hair now....YEA! I took Dana and Farika retightening class last sunday and i actually feel comfertable retighting my hair. I do miss Dana's quick hands. What she could be in 3 hours took me 3 days.

Right after the class i had to go to work so while i was there i was able to get about 3 rows done, same for monday the rest was done on my couch catching up on my tv shows that i am missing because i am working mid shift right now.

When i got to work today i found a few that i had missed (hand in loc) but i hooked the right up and now i am all done until march that is. I plann to schedule my follow up appointment with Dana in April to conencide with my loc-aversay.

Since i am at work i don't have any pics of my 10 month old locks so when i get some time this weekend i will post self-retightened pictures....

My Daughter

I would like to introduce you to my daughter Denea, shes 4.

I have decided to lock her hair. I really really really want to sisterlock her hair but as you can see she has allot of it and it would be entirely to costly to do. I explained to her the best way i could what i was planning to do but all she heard was:

I will not have to comb your hair

Needless to say every sunday when we get on the couch to do hair she reminds me that i said that i would not have to comb her hair anymore.

So some of you are probably wondering way i would lock my daughters hair. Well she has a tight curl pattern that doesn't like to give even when wet. When i do style her hair, I typically braid it up. This takes at least 3 hours. We watch Charmed, Desperate Housewives and Crossing Jordon. We have had this routine since her hair could hold braids. Now she loves the outcome but cannot stand the process. We are talking whinning that leads to tears that leads to more whinning and tears and don't let daddy walk by then we are in for a show. Funny thing is daddy was against it until resently, the whole what if she doesn't want them any more, thing. When she's eighteen she can do anything she wants, until then i do her hair and will do whats best for both of us mentally and physcally. Below is this years school picture. Her hair is 2 strand twisted. I had left them in so long they could have locked but i took them out. I think i will put her braids in this weekend. I am just not sure what size to do. These twist are almost micro but no quite. She likes it when her hair is twisted. No combing YEA! I like that i can still do ponytails and such. Anyway i am looking for feed back. Let me know your suggestion for sizing.

Natural Hair expo

Well i am finally sitting down and writing about the natural hair expo. I had a wonderful time and can't wait to go again next year. The venders had me spinning in circles and stage events were just as wonderful. I was sooooo busy looking around that i didn't take pictures like i was supposed to....

Blog mistakes

Ok so i am sitting here messing with my blog and somehow set the sidebar to the bottom of the page. It took me an hour to fix it but i did and was able to change a few things for the better in the process. So my lesson, be very very very carefull or you will change something that you can't fix. Just to be extra safe i cut and pasted my temple code to a windows file. If i mess it up again i can always cut and paste the last good save.

Parts are one of the things that make Sisterlocks extra special. Some people don't care for the parts but i choose to embrass them for they present great styling options. Keep in mind it is not good to do to much manipulation of your new locks so you must take care when styling your hair.

Sisterlocked Installed

I had my sisterlocks installed by Dana Hagan on April 16, 2005. These are the first photos i took of my new hair. I was excited and scared at the same time. My mothers comments were "I don't like it", "Are you going to leave your hair like that", and another statement i can't remember. My husband wasn't impressed at all. He was just happy that i didn't come home bald and felt secure in the knowledge that one day my hair would be long. Which is all that really mattered to him. Everyone else in my life was careful with there comments. Mostly commenting on the size of the locks or the fact that i acctually went through with it.

As you can see from the pictures Dana was even able to get my baby hair. It took her 12 hours to complete my installation but it was worth it. I had hand-in-lock disease almost immediatly all i wanted to do was play in my hair. I didn't want to wash it though. I was scared i was going to do something wrong so i wanted till the day before my follow up appointment to wash it. It was allot easier than i thought.

NO MORE PERM

Well folks it's done. I have had my perm cut off. I have more pictures but i just couldn't wait to share my change. Tomorrow will be my 8 month anniversary and the time had come to let go.

SISTERLOCKED BUN

I did it. I put my locks in a bun. I figured i should try at least once before i cut my perm. I love the way my texture comes out. I left the bottom out didn't want to put to much stress on them.

Also thanks for all the coments. And to answer one question: My hair was set on perm rods, gray ones, after being washed and i sat under the dryer. By time i took this pic the curls had been in about 3 weeks and were loose enough to fall just a bit.

IN THE BEGINING THERE WAS PERM

My last perm was in November. What the before picture doesn't show is the base of my scalp where i had to shave off my hair because it was falling out. It's a good thing i had enough hair to cover it all, but length was also a probelm. I always had to pull it up in uniform so that ment lots of ponytails or clips which help break my hair in the back. Over the next few months i didn't capture to many photos of myself and the struggles i had with my hair. My hair grows in think and course so i was trying my best not to comb out my permed hair with working with my natural hair. Needless to say i only combed my hair when i had to. The shedding by itself was enough to make me want to perm.

In March I had finally got in touch with a sisterlocks consultant, Dana Hagan, and scheduled an appointment. I acctually found her through one of her clients, another Air Force member. Well at our first meeting we talked and looked through her album and got generally aquainted. I was very comfertable with her knowledge and her personnality so i took the leap and had my test locks put in. I think that was the hardest part of the process. The next two weeks were really interesting. I tried to keep my hair presentable while not combing out the test locks. Just the few times i did catch them in the comb i could have cried out from the pain i inflicked on myself.

Well i went back to Dana after two weeks and she was happy with the test locks. So i decided this was the thing to do but she couldn't fit me in till April so she offered to straw set my hair. She said it was a good transition hair style and boy was she right. Only problem i had was sleeping on my new style. Within a few days the back of my head was messed up but at least i looked nice for easter. I also did a curled braid out which i loved.

It's funny, everyone tells you how being natural is wonderful but the forget to tell you the that the growing out stage is hard. I took me from December to April to grow enough natural hair to get my locks installed.
